- Tabby's free Shopify app adds pay-in-4 at checkout for stores selling in SAR or AED. You need a Tabby merchant account first.
- Tabby's fee is set by contract. Sellers report about 3–5%, plus a small fixed fee per order.
- Shopify charges its third-party fee on every Tabby order: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. Shopify Payments in the UAE doesn't remove it.
- Turn test mode off before launch. Tabby doesn't pay out on orders placed in test mode, even real ones.
- Refund from Shopify admin, never by editing the order. Edits don't sync to Tabby.
Gulf shoppers look for Tabby at checkout. If your Shopify store doesn't show it, some of them will buy somewhere that does.
The good news: adding it takes about an hour once Tabby approves you. The app is free, and Tabby pays you the full order upfront.
Here you'll learn who can offer Tabby on Shopify, what each order really costs, how to install and test it, and how payouts and refunds work.
What does Tabby do on a Shopify store?
Tabby is a buy now, pay later (BNPL) app. Shoppers split the price into four interest-free payments, and you get the full amount, minus Tabby's fee.
Tabby takes the credit and fraud risk. If a shopper misses an instalment, that's Tabby's problem, not yours.
On Shopify, Tabby shows up in two places:
- At checkout, as its own payment method next to cards and Apple Pay.
- On product and cart pages, as a small widget that says "4 payments of AED X".
That widget matters more than most stores think. An AED 1,000 phone reads very differently as four payments of AED 250.

Who can offer Tabby on Shopify?
Tabby works with businesses in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait. Its Shopify app takes payments in SAR and AED, matched to the shopper's billing address.
To get approved, have these ready:
- Your business licence: a UAE or Kuwaiti trade licence, or a Saudi CR (commercial registration).
- A company bank account in AED or SAR, for Tabby's payouts.
- A finished storefront showing prices, delivery terms and your returns policy.
- Your store currency set to SAR or AED. Tabby converts other base currencies, but local pricing converts better.
In Saudi Arabia, you must also check out in SAR and charge the same price for every payment method. Our guide to Saudi BNPL rules for merchants explains both.
How much does a Tabby order cost you?
Every Tabby order on Shopify carries two fees. Tabby's fee, and Shopify's third-party transaction fee.
Tabby's fee
Tabby doesn't publish a rate. You get a contract price with two parts:
- A percentage commission, set by your category and business profile.
- A small fixed fee per successful order.
Both include gateway costs, so there's no extra card fee on top. Sellers and payment vendors report about 3–5% in 2026, with small stores and risky categories at the top.
Shopify's third-party fee
Shopify charges this on any payment that doesn't run through Shopify Payments. Tabby installs as a separate app, so the fee applies to every Tabby order.
That's true in the UAE too. Shopify Payments removes the fee on your card payments, not on your Tabby orders.
The rate falls as your plan goes up, from 2% on Basic to 0.2% on Plus. Cash on delivery is exempt.
Worked example: an AED 1,000 order on a UAE store
Take an AED 1,000 order on a UAE store that uses Shopify Payments for cards. We'll put Tabby at 4%, the middle of the reported range.
| Cost line | Card via Shopify Payments (Basic) | Tabby on Basic | Tabby on Grow |
|---|---|---|---|
| Payment fee | AED 30 (2.9% + AED 1) | AED 40 (4%) | AED 40 (4%) |
| Shopify third-party fee | AED 0 | AED 20 (2%) | AED 10 (1%) |
| Total per order | AED 30 (3%) | AED 60 (6%) | AED 50 (5%) |
Fees are before 5% VAT, and Tabby's small fixed fee comes on top.
So a Tabby order costs about twice a card order. Why do stores pay it?
Here's why. You're paid in full upfront, you carry no credit risk, and BNPL lifts basket sizes in fashion, beauty and electronics. It also pulls shoppers off cash on delivery (COD), where refused parcels can cost far more than 6%.
A Saudi store pays the same two fees. The only difference is that its card payments carry Shopify's fee too, since Shopify Payments isn't available in the Kingdom.

How to install Tabby on Shopify
You need a Tabby merchant account before you touch Shopify. Sign up on merchant.tabby.ai, or merchant.tabby.sa for Saudi stores, and agree your terms.
Then follow these steps:
- 1
Get your live API keys
In the Tabby merchant dashboard, copy your live Public key and Secret key. Test keys won't take real orders.
- 2
Install the Tabby Pay Later app
Find it in the Shopify App Store and install it. It's free, and Tabby bills its fees separately from Shopify.
- 3
Paste your keys
Open the app under More actions > Manage. Paste both live keys, leave the Webhook Verification Code empty for now, and save.
- 4
Create six webhooks
In Settings > Notifications > Webhooks, add the six webhooks from Tabby's guide: transaction, order and checkout creation, checkout update, and product creation and update. Use JSON and the latest API version.
- 5
Add the verification code
Shopify shows a verification code after your first webhook. Paste it into Manage > Webhook Verification Code and save.
- 6
Activate Tabby
Go back to Settings > Payments and click Activate on the Tabby payment method.
The webhooks aren't optional. Without them, Tabby can't read the shopper's phone number or match its records to your Shopify order numbers.
Settings to check before you go live
A few settings decide whether Tabby works, and whether you get paid. Check each one:
- Test mode off. Tabby doesn't pay out on orders placed in test mode, even when a real customer places them.
- Customer contact method set to Email in your Shopify checkout settings.
- Shipping phone number set to Required. Tabby needs it, and so do Gulf couriers.
- Check Inventory Stock on. It stops Tabby selling items that sold out mid-payment. Turn on inventory tracking and switch off "Continue selling when out of stock" first.
- Multi-Currency Processing on, if your store's base currency isn't the shopper's currency.
Add Tabby widgets to product and cart pages
Widgets show the instalment price before checkout. They're marketing only, so Tabby must already be live as a payment method.
The easy route uses your theme editor:
- Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize.
- Open a product template and add the Tabby Installments app block near the price.
- Open the cart template and add the Tabby Cart Page block.
- Save, then check both pages on a phone.
If your theme isn't on Online Store 2.0, add Tabby's Liquid snippet with your Public API key by hand. And if the amounts render oddly, use Tabby's "no-price" snippet, which shows the message without the numbers.

Getting paid and handling refunds
Tabby pays you the full order value, minus its fee, whether or not the shopper pays on time.
Settlement
Your payout schedule is set in your Tabby contract. Ask for the payout day, any minimum balance and any bank charge before you sign.
Each payout shows in the Settlements section of your Tabby dashboard. Shopify doesn't pass its order number to the app, so Tabby uses the payment ID. Match orders by that ID when you reconcile, or rely on the webhooks to fill in order numbers.
Refunds
Refund from Shopify admin, as you would for a card order. The refund then shows in Tabby's dashboard, in the shopper's Tabby app and in your settlements.
Tabby then cancels or reduces the shopper's remaining instalments.
The catch? Order edits don't sync to Tabby.
If a shopper drops one item, refund that item. Don't edit the order, or Shopify and Tabby will show different totals.
Pin down one contract term early: does Tabby give back its fee when you refund? In fashion, where returns run high, that adds up fast.
Known limits of the Tabby Shopify app
None of these stop you launching, but plan around them:
- No order tags. Use Shopify Flow to tag Tabby orders.
- Stock isn't locked during payment. Check Inventory Stock helps, but doesn't remove the risk on fast sellers.
- Checkout styling is Plus-only. Only Shopify Plus stores can change the Tabby logo or footer.
- Analytics need a fix. Shoppers leave for checkout.tabby.ai or checkout.tabby.sa, so add both as referral exclusions in Google Analytics.
- Declines happen. Tabby scores each shopper, and a cart too large for their limit gets rejected.

Notes for Saudi stores
- Set your Saudi market to SAR in Shopify Markets. The app maps SAR checkouts to Tabby's Saudi account.
- You're working with a licensed provider. Tabby Finance got its SAMA licence for BNPL in November 2025.
- Pick your plan on total online sales. Your mada and card gateway pays Shopify's fee too, so Grow pays off sooner than in the UAE.
- High-ticket carts can hit the cap. SAMA limits what a Saudi shopper owes across all BNPL apps to SAR 10,000, so big baskets get declined more often.
See Shopify in Saudi Arabia for gateways and setup.
Notes for UAE stores
- Keep Shopify Payments for cards. It's still the cheapest card route, even though it doesn't cover Tabby.
- Set a minimum order if small baskets don't pay. The UAE has no legal floor, so you can agree one with Tabby.
- Selling to Saudi from a UAE store? Hide Tabby for countries it can't serve with Shopify's checkout customisations, so shoppers don't hit an error.
Our Shopify UAE guide covers plan prices and Shopify Payments.
Notes for Kuwait stores
- Tabby serves Kuwaiti shoppers, but its Shopify app currently lists SAR and AED only.
- Ask Tabby's partner team about KWD before you build around it.
- Lead with KNET. It's how most Kuwaitis pay. Our Kuwait payments guide explains the stack.
Notes for Shopify Plus stores
- Shopify's fee drops to 0.2%, so Tabby's own rate is almost your whole cost. Negotiate it hard.
- You can restyle Tabby at checkout, including its logo and footer.
- Scripts no longer run. Legacy Script Editor scripts stopped on 30 June 2026, so reorder or hide payment methods with Shopify Functions.
Adding Tamara as your second BNPL app? It covers Bahrain too and pays every Tuesday, so follow our Tamara on Shopify setup guide. For other options, see the BNPL providers directory or the BNPL hub.
Frequently asked questions
Yes, installing it costs nothing and there's no monthly fee. You only pay Tabby's per-order fee on successful orders, and Tabby bills it separately from your Shopify invoice.
